Our Unique Focus

Developing healthy behaviors early in life protects children from lifelong chronic diseases such as type II diabetes and heart disease, and reduces children’s risk of becoming overweight. Targeting child health among preschool parents means healthy choices can be established early on in life. Programs like ours typically target children at school, but parents and caregivers have the ultimate responsibility of overseeing their child’s nutrition, physical activity, screen time, and sleep.

Unlike typical nutrition or exercise programs, CHL is designed to empower parents with a broad range of life skills, like healthy communication and advocacy; in turn, these skills support the establishment and maintenance of healthy eating, physical activity, screen time, and sleep behaviors, which brings many health benefits for children and their families.

Access to Community Resources

CHL strives to connect parents and family members with resources in their community. We have created a neighborhood resource map that provides both staff and parents with local resources to support their health behaviors. Resources include: food pantries, parks and playgrounds, museums and libraries, farmer’s markets, and more. We have also compiled a list of other Boston area resources that target a range of needs from internet access to public safety.
