What is Screen Time?
Screen time refers to time spent sitting in front of a screen. Examples of screens include: television, tablets, smart phones, video games, and computer/laptops.

How Much Screen Time is Okay?
Under 18 months
No screen time. Exception: video chatting with family.
18-24 months
Less than 1 hour each day, of high quality programming and less without an adult.
2-5 years
1 hour or less each day
6+ years
2 hours or less of free-time screen time. Exception: school work

What can you do at home?
  • Set limits on your child’s screen time. Use a timer or transitions to let your child know their screen time use is coming to an end.
  • Talk to your child about changes you can make together to limit screen time. Be prepared to hear complaints, but stay with your decision!
  • Avoid using screen time as a reward for good behavior or a punishment for bad behavior.
